Must Have Holiday Board Books

Board books are great for young readers because they are indestructible, short for young attention spans, and filled with captivating illustrations. They are also great stocking stuffers and affordable gifts for friends. Read below for a list of Must Have holiday board books that I highly recommend!

Christmas Cookie Day by Kara Kundson

Christmas Cooke Day is one of the best books that celebrates the special tradition of making Christmas cookies with family. It’s a great story to read before making Christmas cookies because it explains each step of the cookie making process, so that young audiences know what to expect. Rhyming text and lovable animal characters make this an incredible book for young audiences.

The Hungry Caterpillar’s Christmas 123 Written and Illustrated by Eric Carle-

If your child loves reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar this book will definitely be a hit. This book not only includes Eric Carle’s unique artwork, but teaches counting from 1-10 and special Christmas objects.

Dream Snow Written and Illustrated by Eric Carle-

This classic Christmas tale is sure to enchant readers of all ages. It’s based on a farmer who is puzzled because there is no snow on Christmas Eve. He takes a nap, and dreams that a blizzard covers his animals. When he wakes up, he realizes his dream has come true, and that he needs to deliver presents to his furry friends. Eric Carle’s signature collage illustrations, and engaging snow shaped flaps make this book even more magical.

The Story of Christmas by Patricia A. Pingry and Illustrated by Rebecca Thornburgh-  

This book has simple text paired with detailed illustrations that brilliantly explain the true meaning of Christmas. We often pair this story with our nativity scene and read it each night leading up to Christmas.

Snowmen at Christmas by Caralyn Buehner and Illustrated by Mark Buehner-

Part of a series, this exciting tale gives a small glimpse into the life of a snowman when everyone is sleeping. With rhyming text and colorful illustrations this book is perfect to spark imaginations and capture the magic of Christmas.

Our Little Deer by Sandra Magsamen-

This book is guaranteed to be a keepsake. It poetically describes the special love parents have for their children. You’ll want to buy one for each child, and read it over and over again. The soft antlers at the top also provide tactile stimulation for young readers to grab or chew.

Little Blue Truck’s Christmas by Alice Schertle and Illustrated by Jill McElmurray

The Little Blue Truck series doesn’t disappoint young readers, and this book not only celebrates Christmas, but as a bonus teaches counting from 1-5. Twinkling Christmas tree lights on the last page are an extra special treat for curious young readers. As an added bonus, this book even comes as a Spanish edition!
