Our toddler just celebrated her 3rd birthday and birthdays are a big deal in our house! Not only are birthdays a major milestone, but they are a special day that in my opinion should be set apart from the other 364 days.
Since we LOVE books a birthday in our house wouldn’t be complete without a few books to celebrate the occasion!
So, I complied a list of our favorites in hopes that a hope that a few of these titles make their way into your next birthday celebration!

Books
When’s My Birthday Written by Julie Fogliano and Illustrated by Christian Robinson
This book has quickly become one of our favorite books about birthdays. It perfectly shows the pure excitement young children feel before their birthday with rhyming text and repetitive phrases that kids ask before a birthday such as “when is it?” or “how many more days? The illustrations use a combination of collage and rich earth tones make this story come alive. Preschool and young elementary children will definitely relate to this book!
Your Birthday Book: A Keepsake Journal by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
An amazing keepsake that’s not your average baby/toddler book, but instead focuses on birthdays from age 1-18! It also includes pockets for mementos from each year, along with a time capsule to record milestones, special events etc.
The Night Before My Birthday Book Written by
We found this cute book at a small shop while visiting family last summer in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It’s a majestic poem that can be read on the eve before a birthday and captures the anticipation of growing a year older. The illustrations beautifully showcase diverse families celebrating birthdays and how special birthdays are for the entire family.
The Night Before My Birthday Written by Natasha Wing and Illustrated by Amy Wummer
Natasha Wing does it again with another book in her “Night Before” series, with a book that perfectly captures that excitement an anticipation of a special holiday. Written in the same familiar rhyme as the other books in this series, our toddler loves reading this book the night before her birthday!
Happy Birthday to You Written by Dr. Seuss
A birthday book list wouldn’t be complete without this classic Dr. Seuss book. In this book, whimsical pictures and rhyming text easily entertain readers, as they embark on a magical birthday adventure. This is also a great book to record a special birthday message from friends and family each year!
