Second Time Mama Prep List

Second Time Mama Prep List

As a second time mama, you’re pretty much a professional when it comes to baby gear.

So, when it comes to baby number two, there are only a few essential items that you actually need and everything is about making life easier and of course a little pampering.

Since so many people have been asking what I’ve been doing to get ready for baby number two, I thought I’d share a few ideas of what I’ve done to get prepared.

Hope mamas gearing up for their next baby find this list helpful!

Nursing Gear

Cake Nursing Bras

If you’re big busted like me, and normally have trouble finding bras that fit, Cake Nursing Bras are hands down the most comfortable nursing bras. They are made with soft, breathable/ stretchy material that mold to your body. With my first baby, I found these bras great to wear to the gym, to sleep in and they even look great under t-shirts and nursing tanks.

Mother’s Love Nipple Cream

Mother’s Love Nipple Cream was a breastfeeding lifesaver with my daughter. Made with all natural ingredients, this product instantly relieves pain from sore and cracked nipples and makes the beginning stages of breastfeeding more manageable. It’s a priority item for a hospital bag!

Lansinoh Nursing Pads

For mamas that produce massive amounts of milk like me, these pads provide the best absorbency and don’t leak through clothing. They also are the most comfortable pads for sore and cracked nipples. They also don’t show under a nursing bar and stay in place. Hands down the best pads on the market!

Pampering

Professional Organizer

For nesting mamas, hiring a professional organizer will be some of the best money ever spent! We originally hired an organizer to help us maximize space in our nursery because the girls will be sharing a room. Not only did she transform our nursery, but  she made the space fully functional so that items are easily accessible. We loved her work so much, we hired her to organize our closet, a downstairs pantry space, and we’re hiring her again to whip our kitchen into shape. I’m not the most organized person, so this service was an absolute lifesaver and taught me so much about how to keep an organized space.  If you live in the Los Angeles area, check out Simply Organized by Kari Jane!

Mama Massage

Chasing a toddler and growing a tiny human can also result in aches, muscle pains and stress. Relaxation is key to having a happy pregnancy and a “happy mama”. Finding time to rejuvenate is vital, and it’s always important to remember to take time for yourself.

Hands Free Baby Wearing

Solly Wrap

This is my favorite wrap for the newborn stage. It was not only super lightweight, but also breathable for skin to skin contact. I plan to wear this wrap everyday, so I ordered a second to always have one on hand. The Solly Wrap can be used for babies 25lbs and up, and after that, I highly suggest the Ergo 360 wrap!

Ergo Baby Doll Carrier

Our daughter loves her Ergo Baby Doll Carrier and wears it all the time. It has adjustable straps, so it fits well and we can use it for a few years. Since I love baby wearing, this will be a wonderful opportunity for our daughter to also wear her baby doll just like mommy.

Memory Keepsake

Lucy Darlings Baby’s First Year: A Book of Baby’s Firsts

Capturing all of those special “firsts” is super important that first year. I love this gorgeous book because it includes all of the essential milestones and it’s simple to fill out for busy mamas. I even ordered The Little Years by the same author to continue recording special memories into toddlerhood.

Sleep Aids

Miracle Blanket Swaddle

The Miracle Blanket was the only swaddle that actually got our daughter to sleep and trust me we tried them all. We became masters at this swaddle after watching a few helpful You Tube videos and used this blanket every night for the first four months. Having a few on hand will be useful for the inevitable blowout or spit-up situation.

Munchkin Shhh Portable Baby Sleep Soother Sound Machine

We are BIG fans of Harvey Karp’s The Happiest Baby on the Block and white noise was a lifesaver with our daughter. I love that this machine is portable so that we can use it at bedtime, in the car or stroller.

What are some of your mama must-have’s for baby number two? I’ll write an updated post in a few weeks after having the baby with essential gear the helped our sanity!  I love hearing from my readers, so plase leave me a message in the comments!

Great advice. The organization projects are super. A bassinet close to your bed is great for nursing moms
